A new shopping experience entitled the “Free Market” is set to launch in Los Angeles this fall. The “Free Market” project is coming to the Bloc with construction by The Ratkovich Co. starting in the summer.

CNTRLgroup is spearheading the development of the 10,000 square foot retail gallery concept. “The exciting idea behind Free Market is that the customized build-out will be designed from flex materials,” said Douglas Geller, a CNTRLgroup spokesperson. This allows the brand partners to avoid the typical expenses of a build out by flipping the costs that are normally associated with this type of project. Also, this allows smaller brands to join in on the Free Market concept as well.

“The plan is to incorporate footprints for menswear, womenswear, home, active/sport, and a food & beverage component,” said Geller. The new project hopes to incorporate multiple categories including fashion, lifestyle, and restaurants. All of the aforementioned will also be supported with cultural attractions, events, and creative programing. CNTRLgroup is also working with Phil Otto, founder of Otto Design Group, for a build-out concept. Soon, the interior renderings and brand partners will be revealed.

Free Market provides new opportunities for brands

The retail model of Free Market will provide both small and big brands with opportunities to grow. The smaller brands are able to build a meaningful retail presence in order to grow and support their business, whereas bigger brands will be able to take advantage of being able to express their company’s vision through a new cultural experience.

CNTRLgroup hopes that Free Market will become a strong commerce marketplace and hub for cultural exchange within its community. “Free Market is the epitome of the unique, curated experience Angelenos can come to expect from the Bloc,” said Wayne Ratkovich, founder and president of The Ratkovich Company.
