Various retailers are now currently under fire from Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer. Recently, Feuer filed a suit against J.C. Penney, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Sears for their misleading prices.

The suit was filed last Thursday due to these companies’ avid use of false pricing. Many retailers in the fashion industry are known for their false reference pricing, which means that these businesses advertise a certain price that was never actually accurate. This in turn causes customers to believe they are getting a better deal or bargain than they actually are. “Customers have a right to be told the truth about the prices they’re paying--and to know if a bargain is really a bargain,” he said in a public statement.

The suit alleges that these companies have “deceptive” pricing strategies, which goes against California Law. As reported by WWD, Kohl’s had previously shown items that were reduce by approximately 59 percent, although those items were never at the original price point. The publication also reported that Macy’s showed reductions of over 70 percent. Through this new lawsuit filed, these retailers may be forced to change their ways of advertised pricing.
