North and Central American manufacturers launch YarnProof for supply chain traceability

A collective of 10 polyester filament manufacturers in North and Central America has launched YarnProof, a supply chain physical verification technology powered by material authentication firm FibreTrace Technologies Limited.

The new initiative integrates an invisible, persistent physical tracer into polyester filament yarn during the extrusion stage. This marker remains embedded throughout the lifecycle of the material, allowing real-time origin verification across the textile value chain via a specialized handheld scanner.

Physical tracking to reinforce regional trade agreements

The technology aims to help apparel brands, textile manufacturers, and regulatory authorities substantiate supply chain compliance. By providing verifiable evidence embedded directly within the physical yarn, the alliance seeks to support the yarn-forward origin requirements established under regional trade frameworks, including the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The regional coalition comprises US manufacturers Aquafil O’Mara, Inc.; CS America, Inc.; Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, America; Premiere Fibers, LLC; and Unifi Manufacturing, Inc., an operating subsidiary of Unifi, Inc., which holds the trademark for YarnProof. Participating Central American and Mexican manufacturers include CS Central America, S.A. de C.V. from El Salvador; Skytex México, S.A. de C.V. and United Textiles of America from Mexico; and Tecnología Textil Avanzada S.A. and Textufil S.A. de C.V. from Guatemala.

First regional scale collaboration for synthetic fibers

"To our knowledge, this is the first regional group of fiber producers to collaborate at this scale to strengthen their position through physical verification," said Australian material authentication company FibreTrace founder and owner Danielle Statham. Statham emphasized that the alliance moves beyond self-reported origin documentation to create a shared verification framework connecting physical material scans with digital sourcing records.

Each scan performed by authorized supply chain partners logs a verification entry linking the physical product back to its manufacturing documentation. This process provides brands with downstream traceability across raw yarn, woven or knitted fabrics, and finished garments.
