Ross Stores opens 51 stores, completing its 2026 expansion

US off-price retailer Ross Stores has opened 51 new stores across 17 states during September and October, bringing its total openings for fiscal 2026 to 115 and completing its store growth plan for the year.

The latest wave consists of 41 Ross Dress for Less stores and ten DD's Discounts stores. The group, headquartered in Dublin, California, now operates around 2,377 locations across 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.

First stores in Massachusetts

The openings include the Ross Dress for Less banner's first locations in Massachusetts, alongside additional stores in New York and other existing markets. DD's Discounts focused its expansion on its core markets of California, Florida and Texas.

"Building on the strong performance of our newer stores, we are excited to open our inaugural stores in Massachusetts while strengthening Ross Dress for Less' presence in New York and other existing markets," said Richard Lietz, executive vice president of property development at Ross Stores.

Lietz said the company remains confident in the long-term potential of both chains, citing continued consumer demand for branded goods at lower prices. Ross Stores believes it can eventually reach at least 2,900 Ross Dress for Less and 700 DD's Discounts locations.

Two off-price formats

Ross Dress for Less, which the company describes as the largest off-price apparel and home fashion chain in the US, currently counts 1,993 stores. The chain sells brand name and designer apparel, accessories, footwear and home goods at prices it says are 20 to 60 percent below department and specialty store regular prices.

DD's Discounts operates 384 stores in 24 states, offering a more moderately priced assortment at savings of 20 to 70 percent compared with moderate department and discount store prices.

Ross Stores, listed on the Nasdaq, reported revenues of 22.8 billion dollars for fiscal 2025. Alongside the openings, the company made donations to local Boys & Girls Clubs and literacy organisation First Book.
