Superdry announces 70 million pound refinancing to support global retail strategy

British fashion retailer Superdry & Co has agreed a major refinancing package totalling 70 million pounds (93.8 million dollars) to support its next phase of retail expansion and international growth. The arrangement includes a 60 million pounds committed asset-based lending facility alongside a 10 million pounds trade finance facility.

The new senior borrowing replaces previous turnaround arrangements put in place during 2023 with UK-based lenders Bantry Bay Capital and Hilco Capital. The group said the restructuring will benefit its annualised interest cost base by around five million pounds.

Led by UK bank Barclays alongside US lender Bank of America, the core 60 million pounds facility runs until October 2029. The 10 million pounds trade finance facility, also provided by Barclays, is backed by a guarantee from government agency UK Export Finance (UKEF) to drive overseas wholesale and distribution. Separately, Hilco Capital has extended its lending commitment until June 2028, supplying up to 30 million pounds in additional liquidity headroom.

Funding allocated to store openings and brand portfolio

The refinancing follows a return to profitability in fiscal 2025 and continued EBITDA improvement across fiscal 2026. The Cheltenham-headquartered company operates an omnichannel retail model comprising 121 directly owned stores across the UK, Europe and the US, alongside 131 franchise locations spanning 21 countries.

Proceeds will finance the planned opening of 21 new standalone stores during fiscal 2027, as well as European network expansion. Capital will also back the company’s multi-brand licensing strategy; this includes the rollout of British streetwear label Bench; the exclusive UK and European debut of US workwear label Stan Ray; and a long-term partnership with Italian sportswear brand Kappa arriving for spring/summer 2027 (SS27).

Julian Dunkerton, Superdry & Co founder and chief executive officer, said: “We have done the hard work of fixing our foundations. The refinancing gives us the backing to focus on what matters most: growth, building Superdry & Co’s brand portfolio, strengthening our international presence, and opening new stores in the right locations. Having Barclays and Bank of America behind us says a great deal about where we are taking this business and the opportunity ahead of us”.
