Under Armour offers support following tragic Baltimore bridge collapse

US sportswear brand Under Armour has offered its support to the local governor following the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore earlier this week.

The former second-longest continuous truss bridge in the United States collapsed into the Patapsco River on Tuesday morning around 1.30 am after a cargo ship lost power and collided with one of the bridge’s pillars. At least two people were injured, with six others missing and presumed dead who were working on the bridge.

Following the accident, Under Armour, which moved its operations from Washington, DC, to Baltimore in 1998, offered its support to Governor Wes Moor and the city’s mayor, Brandon Scott. The brand issued the following statement, saying:

“We are deeply saddened by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and devastated for the families of those affected by it. Under Armour has been in touch with Governor Wes Moore’s office and Mayor Brandon Scott’s Office to see how we can best support them during this difficult time.

As we process this tragedy, we want to express our gratitude for the rescue personnel across the various interagency departments in Maryland. Baltimore, our home, is resilient, and we stand ready to assist in our city’s recovery.”

Since the bridge collapse, access in and out of the Port of Baltimore, a leading domestic port for cars and industrial goods has been blocked. An extensive cleanup operation is currently underway. with the Army Corps of Engineers deploying a sizable crane to assist in clearing the waterway on Friday morning.
