Fashion and fine art have always gone hand in hand, after all, as Stanley Tucci reminded us in "The Devil Wears Prada", fashion is the greatest art because we live our lives in it. With the recent hype surrounding the beloved Whitney Museum which reopens this Friday, Bloomingdale's saw it as the perfect opportunity to give the public a set of museum inspired bags and window displays. The luxury department store will be releasing a series of bags featuring artwork by Elizabeth Murray, Roy Lichenstein, and Edward Hopper.

The bags are just the first layer on the cake, of course, because they have also filled their Lexington Avenue visual displays with architectural photographs by Italian photographer Marco Anelli which depicts the museum as it went through its phases of construction. Of course, you should get your hands on the bags while you can, because they are only available for a very limited time. The bags are available until May 4th at both the Lexington Avenue flagship and Soho locations. The window displays are view able until May 5th.

Bloomingdale's collaborates with a cultural institution for the first time

Bloomingdale's is legendary for their iconic shopping bags, which include the little brown bag, medium brown bag and big brown bag. While they have done shopping bag collaborations in the past, this is the first time they have done a collaboration with a cultural institution. The medium brown bags are replaced three times a year by special edition shopping bags that are always made available for a limited time. Bloomingdale's hopes this will be the first cultural collaboration in a line of many, though.

“We want to do more tie-ins with cultural institutions in our key markets such as New York, Chicago and Southern California,” Jack Hruska, Bloomingdale’s executive vice president of creative services, told WWD. If they had to do a cultural collaboration with anyone first the Whitney was such a fine choice. Before you head over to the grand re-opening on Friday, you might do well to make a shopping excursion to Bloomingdale's first to get your hand on one of those fashionable new shoppers.
