Manufacturing raincoats in Italy sounds, on first hearing, like a contradiction in terms. However, anyone who has visited Venice in the rain, when the water seems to appear from all sides, knows: the more waterproof, the better. Raincoats from Sealup have, as the name suggests, been keeping their wearers dry for 80 years.

The history of the Italian label Sealup began in 1935 in Lomazzo, a small Italian town located about halfway between Como and Milan. Up until 1950, the company only manufactured raincoats. From that point on though they also produced a ready-to-wear collection. Even First Lady Jackie Kennedy was unable to resist and had a Sealup raincoat in cream, with a wide, brown collar, for harsh New England days.

In terms of design, Sealup has remained true to its roots. The guiding principle here could be Never change a winning team. Classic designs such as the 'hooded mac' or 'Milano mac' are complemented by classic trench coats and peacoats in short and long lengths, and their shape has barely changed. Innovations are only welcomed when it comes to materials. Whether waxed canvas, wool combined with a watertight windbreaker membrane, or the tried-and-tested water-repellent cotton drill, the menswear range from Sealup is ready to take on whatever the weather can throw at it. The Italians have even instigated a joint venture with Comme des Garçons.

You can find Sealup at Premium Berlin, located in Hall 4 Stand E-05.
