Luxury handbag designer Adriano Castro has decided to dip her toes in a new market. The designer has announced that she will be collaborating with luxury e-commerce site Moda Operandi for a collection of shoes to be sold exclusively on their website.

Castro, who grew up on a crocodile farm, is known for her handbags made from exotic skins. She is very meticulous about everything she does, so rather than jump straight into doing shoe design, she spent months at a factory in Spain learning the shoe-making process to make sure she could produce a high-quality product.

The result was a single style of loafer that comes in an array of colors and exotic skins. Price points for the shoes range from 400 dollars to 850 dollars. They will be available for pre-order on Moda's website beginning next week.

Although Moda currently does not carry Castro's handbags, which can cost up to 3400 dollars for a crocodile skin bag, Castro hopes this collaboration will lead to that happening and other future partnerships with the company. She is also hoping to launch other accessory categories.

“For several years I’ve wanted to get out of that ‘box’ of being a single category brand or designer,” Castro said to WWD.

As for why Castro makes an excellent part for Moda, buyer Lisa Ruffel told WWD: “The Moda woman loves vibrant colors and exotic skins — Adriana Castro’s line offers all of this. [The Moda woman] also loves product that no one else has. To offer her something truly unique, we worked with the brand to develop exclusive colorways for this trunk show.”

With the popularity of mules sparked by Gucci, Castro's shoes are sure to be a success among those looking to obtain a pair of mules in fine exotic skins. Prepare for your Moda pre-ordering.
