Akris will be coming to New York Fashion Week this September. Since 2004, the Swiss fashion house headed by creative director Albert Kriemler has been showing their collection in Paris, but now the brand is taking its talents to a different city.

However, despite the showing in New York, they have said this will be a "one-off" event.

Akris has said they will be taking orders in New York after the showing, and then for three days during the Paris designer market. The venue for the scheduled September 9 runway show has not been confirmed.

The timing of the runway show coordinates well with Kriemler receiving the Couture Council of the Museum of FIT's 2016 award for Artistry of Fashion. The award will be bestowed at the council's annual luncheon at the opening of New York Fashion Week on September 7 at Lincoln Center.

The reason for the runway show in New York is because they wanted to recognize the U.S. as one of their most important markets.

“In the last 15 years, it has risen to become the most important market for our brand,” Peter Kriemler said in an interview with WWD.

Akris has eight directly-operated stores in the U.S., and they also wholesale both Akris and Akris Punto ready-to-wear and accessories to 150 doors. They plan to add a Houston location on August 1, and to enlarge their store in Palm Beach, Florida. Earlier this year, they also moved their location in Boston.

The company's major wholesale partners include Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom.

Akris has chosen one of the most interesting times in Fashion Week history to show, as designers are questioning the relevance of the current seasonal model and whether or not to move to a see-now-buy-now schedule. Akris has said they have made no decisions about changing their show format yet.
