Alipay just expanded its reach for the U.S. market. The Chinese-based platform has officially decided to capitalize on the North American market.
Its third-party payment platform is now available for consumers visiting the U.S. and Canada. The company announced this information during NRF Big Show 2017, according to Retail Touch Points. As Chinese consumers are expected to visit North America this year, Alipay’s expansion will be a huge convenience. According to the the U.S. Travel Association, more than three million Chinese consumers are expected to travel towards the U.S. and Canada. “Chinese consumers love to shop when traveling to the U.S. and Canada, but language and payment barriers often complicate the process for many North American retailers,” Souheil Badran, president of Alipay North America, said in a statement.
Alipay will be a choice for consumers to use during their checkout process. This transaction can now be approved in either U.S. dollars or Chinese yuan, which makes buying easier for consumers and travelers. This will also allow more tourism to the states, broadening international reach within North America.
