Amazon has officially filed a lawsuit against a former employee. The executive, which was recently hired by Target Corp., was sued by the online marketplace due to the issue of revealing trade secrets.

The lawsuit Amazon launched was against Arthur Valdez for a” violation of a non-competition agreement,” according to Reuters. He had signed the agreement while he worked for Amazon in an executive role. His title at Amazon was president of operations. His roles including focusing on international supply chain expansion. Valdez was hired by Target on February 29 to “optimize its supply chain and leverage its [stores],” according to WWD. When he worked at Amazon, his main duties included focusing on supply chain and expansion, which is similar to his new job at Target.

The new role at Target puts Valdez in a place for competition, which would compromise the signed agreement. At the specialty store, he would fill the role of executive vice president and chief supply chain and logistics officer. His role is similarly close to his old job at Amazon. However, Target does not feel that the lawsuit valid. “We have taken significant precautions to ensure that any proprietary information remains confidential and we believe this suit is without merit,” said Molly Snyder, a spokeswoman for Target.
