Anya Hindmarch is letting customers create their own designer handbag

Anya Hindmarch is getting creative with her newest launch this upcoming season. Debuting in New York in May, the luxury handbag designer is allowing customers to build their own bags at Barneys.

The customers will all start with the same iconic bucket bag and will be able to choose various different styles, materials, and details. Clients can choose their bucket bag size of either large or small and go on to pick the type of material they want for the handbag. Customers can then choose shearling, leather, or python for their bag and go on to choose whether they want handles or shoulder straps for their accessories. The last touch for the bags includes being able to pick charms, tassels, or other decorative elements for a personalized style.

Anya Hindmarch launches build a bag collection at Barneys New York

The idea for the build-a-bag launch came from the brainchild of Hindmarch herself. She told WWD she was inspired from Airfix model kits, which allowed kids to create their own aircrafts with a starter set of figures, paints, brushes, and more. In a similar way, the collection reflects that aspect of personalization and self-expression. “People want to express who they are, and no one wants the same bag — this way you can make it your own,” she told the publication.

The customizable bags will be priced from 1,150 to 1,250 dollars depending on whether customers opt for the smaller or larger size. The bags are available in a variety of colors and are all lined with suede and a pocket on the inside. The collection will be exclusively at Barneys New York on May 12. The collection will then be available at other stores internationally starting May 15, as well as online through the brand’s website. The bags will also be available alongside her seasonal collections from pre-fall 2017.

Additionally, the line will be available at Lane Crawford and at Anya Hindmarch’s standalone stores across the globe. Currently, there are locations in Los Angeles, New York, and London where the build-a-bag frenzy will take place.
