California brand Marine Layer launches recycled T-shirt program

Northern California brand Marine Layer is getting its customers directly involved with the sustainability movement. Launching on April 28, the brand will be introducing its Re-Spun program, which will take customer-donated T-shirts and upcycle them into new styles.

According to the brand’s website, Marine Layer is encouraging patrons to send in old, worn-in T-shirts in return for up to 25 USD in store credit. From there, the shirts are broken down into fibers which are then made into a recycled yarn with the addition of recycled plastic. Using this recycled yarn, the brand will make eight different styles of T-shirts for men and women, including polo, a tank top, and a ringer tee.

Customers can send any old T-shirts, regardless of the brand, to the brand by using a prepaid mailing envelope or by taking them into one of Marine Layer's brick-and-mortar locations.
