Los Angeles-based brand Christy Dawn has become known for utilizing deadstock fabric in its vintage-inspired designs. Now, it’s taking its commitment to sustainability to a new level with the holiday season in mind.

According to an announcement from the brand, Christy Dawn is sharing the furoshiki wrapping method—which uses cloth squares to wrap presents instead of traditional wrapping paper—with its audience. The brand has created a step-by-step guide for its customers on how to wrap gifts with squares of leftover fabric on its blog. Additionally, for every purchase made in December, Christy Dawn will be including special furoshiki squares in the packages they send out.

“Wrapping paper is rarely recyclable, and around the holiday season, our consumption of this product skyrockets,” the post shares. “Aside from the waste it creates, it’s also an expensive, recurring cost and, frankly—we think furoshiki makes a much more beautiful present, anyway!”
