The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, known as the haven for hipsters, millennials, and thrill-seekers alike has become a new facet in Los Angeles fashion.

Known as a musical festival, the event has become substantial in regards to how the fashion industry perceives the event. Top fashion brands participate as sponsors for the event for fashion moguls who will attend the event, as well as for celebrity Coachella goers.

Celebrities get paid to attend Coachella Festival

The New York Daily News reported last year that a variety of celebrities would allegedly received payments for showing up to the festival. The anonymous source from Daily News reported that Lea Michele would earn 20,000 dollars to go to the event with a rumor mill going around that Lacoste was involved. Aaron Paul was reported to be willing to go for 15,000. Vanessa Hudgens, an admired Coachella fashion icon, is known for her advertising with McDonald's for the event.

It’s not uncommon for celebrities to gain sponsorships for fashion brands in order to promote their companies. According to LA Weekly, Diplo made a deal with Amnesty International to wear a shirt for 50,000 dollars. Gwyneth Paltrow received 15,000 to wear Uggs at the festival.

Fashion events takeover Indio’s Coachella music event

The festival has typically 180,000 attendees each year; its reasonable to understand why fashion markets capitalize on this market. This year, Pandora Jewelry, Mara Hoffman, Rachel Zoe, H&M, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) are all actively participating in the 3-day affair. With a whole new retail experience from H&M and designers showcasing their designs at the event, the new take on how fashion is perceived at the festival has changed.

Steven Kolb, chief executive of the CFDA, believes in how Coachella is changing fashion indubitably. “People now look to music festivals like Coachella for fashion style and trends much in the same way they do for discovering what’s hot in music,” Kolb told the LA Times.

The H&M pop-up shop at the festival will include their “H&M Loves Coachella” collection on sale in a completely new first-of-its-kind retail experience. The CFDA brunch will include Mara Hoffman as its guest to show off a “Must Have Box” collection of items to attendees. The Avalon Palm Springs hotel brings in PopSugar and ShopStyle at the Cabana Club. Known LA fashion bloggers such as Aimee Song from Song of Style, Rumi Neely from Fashiontoast, and Olivia Lopez from Lust for Life all participate in the fashion frenzy of Coachella by attending each year.

The event has become a fashion season all of its own, introducing its own unique style that is hasn’t been this popular since the Woodstock era. As the festival is at its peak in popularity, there’s no certainty how long this Coachella fashion trend will actually last.

The SoCal festival takes place in Indio for two weekends: April 10-12 and April 17-18. Tickets range from 375 dollars for general admission and 899 dollars for VIP admission.
