Cone Denim, the North Carolina based denim fabric manufacturer, is now a member of the Better Cotton Initiative. Better Cotton Initiative, or BCI, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible global standards, bringing together the cotton supply chain from farmers to retailers.

Cone Denim joins the ranks of Nike, Adidas, Levi Strauss & Co., H&M, Marks & Spencer, VF Corp., Tommy Hilfiger, A|X stores, Wal-Mart, Inditex and Tesco who are all members of BCI, representing around ten percent of the world's cotton consumption. Steve Maggard, Vice President of Operations, Planning, and Product Development at Cone Denim said in a statement, "Cone Denim promotes sustainability and responsible manufacturing in all of our operations, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with other members of the cotton supply chain to share best practices and work to continuously improve the production and sustainability of cotton, and grow the demand for Better Cotton."

Cone Denim has long been committed to environmental sustainability. Many of their initiatives have included incorporating distinct fiber blends, fabric constructions, and engineering processes that support environmental sustainability practices. For example, their Sustainblue Collection includes denim constructed from recycled cotton and polyester and sustainable yarns.

Many of the company's suppliers include businesses that have won sustainability awards for providing fibers and yarns that have a reduce, reuse, and recycle component. With many brands nowadays working to become more green and reduce their environmental footprint, Cone Denim is already ahead of the game. They are an excellent example of where the future of sustainable fashion is heading.
