Ecco x Shoe Surgeon: Step by Step Customisation
loading...
With more than 170k followers on social media, Dominic Chambrone a.k.a the Shoe Surgeon, is seen as one of the most recognizable sneaker customizers in the USA. His one of a kind items are available via email ordering or one-on-one appointment in his LA-based studio, where he works with his team of 8.
Chambrone was invited by Ecco to participate in its annual leather laboratory Hot Shop two years ago, where he was able to learn more about leather making techniques and the shoemaking process. What started as a workshop, turned into an organic relationship between the shoe maker and the Danish footwear brand in no time.
“Everyone wants to become a little bit more unique, rather than just buying something from the shelf. My clients rather have something special.” says Chambrone to FashionUnited.
In his collaboration with Ecco, Chambrone was given the chance to step into a new role. “The process is definitely similar to what I do back in the LA studio. The only difference is that over there I make the product myself. This is good opportunity to change roles and become more of the designer than just a maker.”
FashionUnited had a chance to follow the steps of the Shoe Surgeon’s shoe personalisation during one-on-one appointment at W-21, the Experimental Shoe Store of ECCO Sko A/S in Amsterdam, where Chambrone consults directly with clients seeking to co-design their own shoes.
