In 2016, Eileen Fisher has kicked off the year by remaining faithful to her company’s pledge to eco-friendliness. The contemporary women’s clothing line just became officially B Corporation Certified solidifying its stance on responsible fashion.

The brand, founded by Eileen Fisher in 1984, joins over 1,500 companies globally that are recognized by this standard. The B Corporation Certification, issued by B Lab, locks in the women’s fashion company as a socially and ethically responsible company. B Corps are known to meet a high standard for social and environmental performance and accountability. The companies are also judged by their transparency in these areas. By achieving this standard, Eileen Fisher becomes one of the largest companies in New York with this certification. “Being acknowledged for our work over three decades is a testament to our passionate commitment to social and environmental responsibility,” said Fisher.

Eileen Fisher moves forward with 5-year sustainability plan

The certification will also allow the brand to continue influencing the fashion industry. “This recognition allows us to take a bold step in sharing who we are and what we believe in, and to make greater impact in the world as a fashion industry leader,” said Fisher. The company has used pure shapes and fine fabrics to produce high fashion ready-to-wear lines. Over the years since its establishment, the brand has supported and participated in eco-friendly fashion and social consciousness. The certification proves the brand’s ability to move forward with its goals.

The company also plans to eventually reach a goal of 100 percent sustainability. The company announced in March 2015 a plan detailing steps that the brand will take to reach that goal. The plan is an intricate five-year plan that includes B Corp certification as a step for Eileen Fisher’s journey. Joining the B Corp community proves to be an important part of the fashion movement towards sustainability. “Social change is a team sport,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “[It’s] powerful to have iconic brands like Eileen Fisher, Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s working together to use B Corp as a platform for their collective leadership in striving toward industry-wide and systemic change.”
