The menswear Fall/Winter 2016-17 catwalks are now in full flow, with London kicking off last week and Milan doing the same this week, we are now waiting in anticipation of Paris! See here our scoop on what’s emerging so far.

ICEBERG by James Long

In Milan, Fall/Winter 2016-17 marks the first Iceberg menswear collection to be designed by new creative director James Long, a British designer and RCA alumni who has graduated from MAN and NEWGEN sponsorships to become one of the most sought-after names at London Fashion Week. Setting out to ‘reset’ Iceberg’s signature brand codes, Long’s strong debut brings together the old with the new, looking back at the birth of the label in 1974 and appropriating the rainbow-hued logo designed by its first designer, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Other JCDC print innovations emerge with playful Mickey Mouse doodles, redrawn by Long and refracted through a kaleidoscope of Pop Art references created by Iceberg founders Silvio and Giuliana Gerani. The rest of the collection demonstrates a luxe athleisure focus with relaxed sports silhouettes, knitted track pants and reversible bomber jackets, set off by vivid colour pops, striped surfaces and textured detailing.

Dusty Denim Blue

This warm dusty denim blue is a move on from the cooler denim blue shades we have seen of recent seasons. This particular colour fits in and harmonises strongly against the Seventies browns we have seen in our previous Trend of the Year ‘Modern Seventies’ seeing that the seventies influence still continues to dominate the catwalks. This denim inspired shade works well when applied to both casual, formal and also non denim based products. Across apparel and accessories alike, this colour can be applied to many different fabrications ranging from sleek leather high-tops to a raw edged checked cotton Henley shirt or even on a formal jacket’s feature knitted lapel collar.

Waxed Military Cotton

As an update to the utility canvases we saw last season, this season is all about the coating. With numerous military updates seen on the Fall/Winter 2016-17 catwalks this season military grows up with an austere look. Linking to our Trend of The Year ‘New Utility’, that shows a well-refined and contemporary take on utility-inspired style. It also provides a more durable and practical fabrication choice. Across apparel and accessories alike, alongside the more expected products such as outerwear and accessories we also see a play on unexpected products. Highlights include feature hoods, military Macs and pleat front slacks.
