Feng Chen Wang uses fashion to convey the state of human interactions

Feng Chen Wang is truly a designer of her generation. For her spring/summer 2017 collection, the designer built it around the theme of meeting, connection, and connectivity. To do this, she used clothes as a metaphor for how people communicate in this very digital age.

A lot of communication now is through a poke, swipe, or double tap (yes, we are looking at you Facebook, Tinder, and Instagram.) To illustrate this idea, Wang took lopped cables and ran them through the openings of garments, which manipulated their structure and connected them to one-another in tangled knots.

The collection had a bit of a 90s feel with the oversized jackets reminiscent of the baggy parkas hip-hop stars featured in their music videos. While everyone is still focused on taking inspiration from the 70s and 80s, Wang might be a bit ahead of her time right now, but the potential for her to gain major recognition as a designer iis there.

In terms of construction, hemlines were incredibly clean and meticulously done. Fabrics were slit, split, and stashed, but done so with order and intention so as not to look cheap or too dramatic.

For right now, Wang might seem a bit avant-garde and ahead of her time, but in a few seasons, we could easily be looking back thinking that she was onto something before many other designers were.
