Flamenco Fashion to expand US presence with New York Fashion Week shows
The Flamentex International Chair of Flamenco Fashion, from Seville's Higher Centre for Artistic Design Education (ESSDM), is preparing a new international promotional event in the US with two catwalk shows coinciding with New York Fashion Week. The events will take place in September 2026 and February 2027. They will be accompanied by the filming of several fashion films in various locations across the city.
The next show will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026. It is part of a strategy by which the institution seeks to strengthen the presence of flamenco design in the US market and give visibility to Andalusian creative and artisanal talent.
The initiative will expand its usual presence alongside the city's Fashion Week with an audiovisual production linked to some of New York's most recognisable locations. Times Square; Fifth Avenue; the Hispanic Society; and Brooklyn Bridge will be some of the chosen settings for filming the fashion films. These are conceived as an additional tool to showcase flamenco design to international audiences.
The project is supported by Seville City Council. Its mayor, José Luis Sanz, highlighted the initiative's role in taking the city's talent beyond Spanish borders. Sanz also stressed the cultural dimension of fashion as a vehicle for international promotion. “Our designers are ambassadors of a living and constantly evolving culture,” he noted.
From ESSDM's perspective, the focus is also on the business opportunities that this presence in the US can generate. Its chief executive officer, Francisco Valderrama, explained that the experience gained in New York has helped to build a network of contacts aimed at brand development and new partnerships.
“The reception that New York City has given to flamenco fashion has been an institutional catalyst for the international promotion of one of our clearest hallmarks, and has led to a very intensive agenda of business actions and strategic brand agreements,” Valderrama indicated.
This international commitment is also connected to the evolution of ESSDM's academic offering. The centre is preparing to launch the Hispanic-American Fashion Academy, a new project with which it plans to participate in the commemoration of the centenary of the Ibero-American Exposition of Seville in 2029.
