The man who has been the genius behind the curation of the Met's Costume Institute for years is on his way out in January. Of course, for a man whose artistic direction has been so celebrated, he had to go out with a bang. The Pratt Institute has realized how celebrated Harold Koda should be before his retirement, and will be awarding him with a Lifetime Achievement award at the Pratt Institute Fashion + Cocktail Benefit on May 5 at Spring Studios .

Koda's impeccable artistic eye can currently be seen in the Jacqueline de Ribes: Art of Style exhibit which will be open until February 21, 2016. He's also been the force behind the China Through the Looking Glass exhibit, the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit, and the Diana Vreeland: Immoderate Style exhibit just to name a few of the many works Koda has been responsible for during his tenure at the Met.

Koda has had a very long and extensive career, in addition to a highly respectable education. He graduated from University of Hawaii with a B.A. and B.F.A. in art history. He also studied at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, and went on to earn an M.A. in landscape architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Early on in his career at the Met he worked under Richard Martin and legendary Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Costume Institute special consultant Diana Vreeland. In regards to being commemorated with this award from Pratt, Koda was quoted saying to WWD that "As a curator, my focus has often been on what has passed, but the students from Pratt, all emerging talents, are part of an exciting and evolving fashion history in the making, a creative future that I look forward to seeing unfold.”
