Six students gathered onThursday in Manhattan for the final of the Joe’s Blackbook scholarship contest 2018. The competition annually awards $10,000 each to one menswear student and one womenswear student. A womenswear panel of judges from the industry––senior designer from Calvin Klein 205W39NYC, Anne Kathryn Rohr, Carol Song from Opening Ceremony, two designers from Vaquera and Joyce Lee from Madewell––deliberated over the womenswear winner. Likewise for the category of menswear, a panel including Tim Coppens, Martin Andersson from Theory, and John Caruso from GAP, were tasked with selecting the winner. The lucky student who took home the womenswear check was Shirley Park from Otis and the menswear award went to Junhyung Seo from the Fashion Institute of Technology. The scholarship is in its eighth year and has already awarded over 150,000 USD.
