Fashion |INTERVIEW

After showing for the first time at OC Fashion Week last year, Ionica Moldovianu has moved to the East Coast to the big times. Since her debut at the Laguna Design Center, Moldovianu has had two shows in France during the Cannes Film Festival. This past week, the designer showed off her new Spring/Summer 2018 collection at Style Fashion Week.

Over the the last week, New York has been busy with various fashion shows including New York Fashion Week, Style Fashion Week and several other events. Making it to New York after her Orange County show, Moldovianu had some updates on her upcoming collections. After showing last week, Fashion United chatted with the designer on how her SS18 collection came to fruition.

What was your main theme for this collection?

The French Riviera

What inspired you for this particular show/collection?

My trip to the French Riviera earlier this year. I spent an entire month there having the honor to be a partner for one of the exclusive events organized by Port Vauban for the VIP, Yacht owners and celebrity guests attending Cannes Film Festival and Formula One. The glamour and luxury, the beautiful scenery of the Riviera and the people … they all inspired this collection.

What is the current price range for the collection?

Price range for IONICA varies from $300 to $5000 for more Limited Edition pieces.

Was this your first time showing NY? How did you feel about it?

This was my first show in NY. The feedback on the collection is truly amazing. I am extremely grateful with the outcome.

How is showing on the East Coast different from showing on the West Coast?

NY surely is considered one of the Meccas in the Fashion Industry. It meant tremendously for me to reach this platform and the show was a huge success. We had full house at Intrepid Museum in NY. It was remarkable to see how many individuals come to watch the show and appreciate my designs.

I had people coming to me at the end of the show not only to congratulate me fpr the show but also to tell me how excited they were when they RSVP for my show. It meant a lot to me as this was a very much anticipated show.

Do you think that with the trend of see-now- buy-now, that fashion shows are as important as they were previously?

Not only that I believe that they are, I also think it’s absolutely admirable to see designers showcasing in the US and internationally. You know, it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there in front of the audience. I have all the respect for my fellow designers because we know how much work and effort is required to put together not only a collection but an entire show.

As far as the audience is concerned I believe that those who love and appreciate fashion will still make their way to see a live fashion show. An aspect here to mention is that the majority of these fashion show are very exclusive, have limited access and are by invitation only. Therefore a lot of the individuals will of course resume to the see now buy now trend because as don’t have necessarily have the opportunity of attending a live show.

What do you have planned for the future with this line?

There is one goal for IONICA for today and future: “IONICA is a worldwide luxury clothing brand”
