Los Angeles - After recently launching a pop-up shop, Los Angeles-based designer Jill Aiko Yee has also decided to open up her studio as a new concept space.

Located in downtown Los Angeles, Yee’s studio space opened very recently. The office space serves as a way to retail her contemporary apparel to customers through appointments only. The reason for the by-appointment business model is due to Yee’s intricate, personal way of doing business. “When I do by-appointment shopping, I feel like a hairdresser,” she told WWD. “[Customers] come and we do therapy and they share what’s going on in their lives.” However, as a recent development for her studio, she is planning to open it up Saturdays as part of a marketplace for locals. The marketplace event also includes other local creatives including jewelry designers, leather goods, and more. The reason that the “Saturday Open Studios” operates differently is due to the fact that no appointments are necessary. This allows shoppers to peruse Jill Aiko Yee clothing along with other Los Angeles makers and designers.

Yee started her eponymous label in 2011 in Los Angeles. Before starting her brand, she worked for Los Angeles labels such as Gregory Parkinson, Clover Canyon, and more. After also graduating from art school, Yee began her venture in the fashion world through her own line. The brand is known for its bold utilitarian dresses, pants, and tops ranging from approximately 16 dollars up to 550 dollars. The brand emphasizes women’s workwear with a creative flair, resulting in practical and fashionable clothing. The brand’s new showroom will continue to be open on Saturdays, while during weekdays Yee will continue by appointments only for her merchandise.
