Joan Smalls launches DonateMyWage
As the fight for racial equality triumphs on, supermodel Joan Small has started the organization DonateMyWage. Smalls has already committed to donating 50 percent of her wages for the rest of the year to causes promoting racial equality. Now, she has partnered with marketing agency FlyteVu to launch DonateMyWage.org to encourage others to donate as well.
This new online donation platform enables users to calculate potential charitable donations based on their annual salaries and direct them to organizations worth supporting. In a statement Smalls said, "My hope is that Donate My Wage will help educate those that are interested in being an active participant in the Black Lives Matter movement and bring needed attention to organizations that require monetary support to continue their important work. This is just the beginning and together our impact can be so much more."
Smalls agency, IMG Models, has committed to donating 250,000 dollars already. Suggested donations for those who visit DonateMyWage.org can range from a day's salary to a month's salary. Smalls has selected 11 organizations to feature including Black Women’s Blueprint, Black Visions Collective, Bld Pwr, Color of Change, Equal Justice Initiative, Gideon’s Army, Innocence Project, Know Your Rights Camp, The Marshall Project, Until Freedom and United Negro College Fund.
