Jonathan Anderson denies rumours of Zara collaboration
Madrid – Rumours have been circulating in the ever-active fashion world about a potential collaboration between designer Jonathan Anderson, the current creative director of Dior, and Zara. Zara is the flagship brand of the Spanish fashion multinational, the Inditex group. However, these rumours have now been denied by the British designer's brand.
All sources point to the Instagram account Deux Moi as the origin of this rumour. On Thursday, citing an anonymous source, the account reported a supposed collaboration between the Northern Irish designer and the Inditex group's flagship chain. It was assumed that any potential partnership would be through the British designer's own brand, JW Anderson. This would follow similar initiatives the brand has undertaken over the years with other fashion brands and chains such as Converse, APC, and Uniqlo. Uniqlo is the main fashion chain of the Japanese group Fast Retailing, making it one of Zara's biggest global competitors.
In this context, the whispers suggested that Zara was about to get ahead of its Japanese competitor, taking its place as JW Anderson's new strategic collaborator. According to the same rumour, the brand seemed ready to terminate its collaboration agreement with Uniqlo, which has been in place since 2017. This partnership has produced one of the most popular and interesting product lines in its commercial offer. The move would have seen JW Anderson link up with the Inditex group's main fashion chain.
This comes at a time when Zara's strategy to elevate its brand and collections seems limitless, following its high-profile activations with Bad Bunny and the signing of John Galliano as a creative collaborator. It was suggested that the Spanish chain was about to mark a new milestone. While this possibility cannot be ruled out, it will not be with JW Anderson, at least for now. The label has already denied any information about a potential collaboration with Zara via a brief post on its Instagram account. Jonathan Anderson himself shared the denial, thereby endorsing his fashion brand's statement.
In this regard, “the rumours suggesting that JW Anderson and Zara are working on a collaboration are false,” the British luxury brand stated in its very brief announcement. With these statements, they have settled the matter and denied the growing rumour that had been spreading rapidly over the last 24 hours.
