Los Angeles - Los Angeles Market Week kicked off over the weekend inviting retail buyers from all over to walk through the old industrial New Mart building and peruse through their showrooms.

Market Week comes to downtown Los Angeles five times throughout the year including the months of January, March, June, August, and October. In the last market week of the year, The New Mart showcased styles for Spring 2016. The four day event ran from October 12-15 in the heart of the fashion district of Los Angeles. In uncomfortable high temperatures, local and out-of-town buyers gathered to review upcoming collections for the impending Spring season. After finalizing most of their warm-weather choices for fall, the buyers came in with preemptive ideas about their Spring season. Especially after following trade events in Vegas, such as WWD Magic, buyers were prepared in their choices for LA Market Week. According to Apparel News, the New Mart was overwhelmed with buyers heading to their merchandise showrooms. Due to its timing in following other trade events, October serves an active month for the building. The month brought in large crowds for the last market week of the year.

The New Mart currently has 55 categories of merchandise for buyers to select from. Showrooms vary in design including contemporary, sophisticated, and trendy brands. Some of the labels that participated in LA Market Week include 10eleven, True Religion Brand Jeans, Ugg, Sanctuary Clothing, James Jeans, Eileen Fisher, Daniel Rainn and more. While checking out various lines, the buyers examined fabric, price, quality, and style in their decisions. “It has to be unique and comfortable and something that makes you feel good and is versatile,” Michael Druskin of Len Druskin told Apparel News. To this degree, Druskin disclosed to the publication that textiles and fabric were also important, not just price. “People are more than ever willing to spend money if something speaks to them,” he told AN.

The registered L.A. historical landmark showcases over 100 fashion showrooms in heart of L.A.’s fashion district. The building represents top fashion lines including Lacoste, T. Smith & Co., Lucky Brand, XCVI, Silver Jeans Co., and others. As a frequent supporter of its tenants’ businesses, the building helps its clients progress in the fashion industry. The New Mart hosts trade events throughout the year including Moda 360, Designers & Agents, and Melange. Known for its popular market weeks, the next scheduled market week event will be January 18-21 in 2016.
