Levi Strauss & Co. recently just acquired a piece of history. The blue jean retail giant just bought Albert Einstein's iconic leather brown jacket at an auction house.

The acquisition for the legendary ‘Cossack’ jacket was for 146,744 dollars. Levi’s made the winning bid for the jacket at Christie’s in London. The jacket, fittingly, was originally produced and manufactured by Levi’s. Einstein was popularly known for wearing the jacket and was also photographed several times in the outerwear. He was photographed in the ‘Cossack’ jacket by Lotte Jacobi in 1938. As much as the jacket is a part of America’s history, as he wore it while he was a U.S. citizen, it is also a big staple for Levi’s history.

Levi’s started in 1873 as a denim apparel company. Currently, Levi’s retails its apparel and jeans in over 110 countries and also through its e-commerce site. Levi Strauss & Co. currently is the parent company of Levi’s and has a total of 2,800 operating stores. Over the years, Levi’s has become one of the leading names in jeanswear on a global scale.
