Los Angeles garment manufacturers have recently come under fire for labor violations. Recently, the California Labor Commissioner's Office has fined over 300,000 dollars in fines for the violations.

The Labor Commissioner's Office cited 14 manufacturers and contractors, according to Apparel News. The companies have been fined a total of 372,135 dollars for violations. These violations include fines, stop orders, garment regulation violations, and more. After 18 inspections took place last month, investigators found approximately 5,725 illegally manufactured garments. The value of those garments totaled 103,000 dollars according to the publication.

“Garment manufacturers who thwart the law threaten workers’ rights and undermine honest employers in the industry, making it difficult for legitimate businesses to succeed,” Labor Commissioner Julie A. Su said, as reported by the LA Business Journal.

These citations varied from failure to register as a garment manufacturer as well as not maintaining records and files. The companies will have to deal with these future consequences, especially as Los Angeles continues to grow as a manufacturing hub.
