Five black designers are teaming up with Macy’s for a limited-edition collaboration of three exclusive drops of ready-to-wear and shoes. The launch will be on Monday, March 22, and features designers Allen Onyia, Ouigi Theodore, Zerina Akers, Misa Hylton, and Aminah Abdul Jillil. Each designer has created a collection with one of Macy’s private labels. Akers collaborated with Bar III for womenswear, Hylton with INC International Concepts for womenswear, Onyia collaborated with INC International Concepts for menswear, Theodore collaborated with Sun + Stone for menswear, and Jillil collaborated with INC International Concepts for menswear. The drops will take place this month, in May, and in September.

Like many fashion companies in the wake of last year’s Black Lives Matter protests, Macy’s has committed itself to boosting the representation of Black fashion industry professionals. This collaborative program was a chance to give emerging Black designers a platform at Macy’s and create products immersed in the Black experience.

The five designers collections will be sold online, in select Macy’s stores and via the Macy’s app. The initiative is part of Macy’s spring fashion campaign.
