California-based label Chapter just introduced a new category to its brand. Although known for its menswear, the brand recently unveils plans of creating a new women’s line. Due to high requests and a desire for change, Chapter decided to forego the dive into new territory with womenswear.

The main reason for creating women’s clothing was due to Chapter’s past feedback. “I’ve gotten requests from stylists and friends to shoot our clothing on women so it’s always been on the mind,” Devin Carlson, designer of the brand, told WWD. The new collection, although designed for an entirely different gender, will still reflect the brand’s original tone. The collection will include tailored outerwear, cropped knitwear, pants, and more. Using the same high quality for the men’s brand, Chapter’s women’s line will also comprise of silk, wool, and lambskin materials.

Although primarily a menswear brand, Chapter hopes to prosper beyond that and use its popularity to propel growth. “I feel like for all of the men’s brands that participate in men’s week, it helps build momentum and I think that momentum carries on throughout the season,” Carlson told WWD. The women’s line that the brand will debut will plan to be sold at retailers different to its original line. This includes retailers such as Need Supply, Barneys New York, and Tenoversix; although none of these businesses are yet confirmed to carry the line.
