Research-based apparel company Ministry of Supply recently just made a huge change to their company. After offering professional performance attire exclusively for menswear, the brand just announced their new venture in offering women’s clothing.

Ministry of Supply launched from Kickstarter about four years ago after acquiring over 400,000 dollars over their original goal. The startup apparel brand launched as an idea for smart professionals who want to dress stylishly with a functional purpose. First, the brand offered standard polos, casual t-shirts, professional dress shirts, functional blazers and outerwear, and fitted pants for men with an emphasis on work-attire and everyday clothing. Moving into new territory, Ministry of Supply is now offering workwear for women ranging from 85 to 140 dollars in price.

On the website, the brand offers polished long-sleeve button downs with silk-like elements. As stated on the site, the womenswear is offered as a "collection of smart, effortless pieces designed to do more." The collection ranges in color offering ivory, blush, black and charcoal options. In addition to the draped collared shirts, the brand offers minimal pants that retail for 140 dollars. Offering both a slim and classic pant leg, the pieces are available in charcoal, black and navy. Paired together, these options offer a viable solution for an everyday workwear wardrobe.

To make sure that the womenswear stood out different form menswear, the brand’s design team was very meticulous. After working for two years, the styles have now been released after surveys and focus groups held by the company, as reported by Fashionista. The collection focuses mostly on problem-areas of workwear fashion that women needed solutions. With a similar mission in mind, Ministry of Supply was still able to have a fresh take on their womenswear line. “We resisted the urge to just recut the men’s stuff into women’s stuff and launch it and move on,” co-founder Aman Advani told the publication.

The collection stands behind its message of providing functional, performance-driven clothing. Along with stylish options, each cut and design was manufactured with the fit as a main priority. With the research comes great solutions for clothing, however the designs are still imperative to the Ministry of Supply brand. “If we don’t nail the fit and the style—if you don’t look good—then all the technology we’re using becomes irrelevant,” Advani told Fast Company of the women’s apparel.

As men’s clothing for Ministry of Supply has expanded over the years, it’s suitable to assume that the womenswear category will follow suit. Currently, the brand only offers a range of four different styles available in three to four colors. At the moment, the women’s apparel is fully available through the brand’s online website.

As the Boston-based brand has grown, it’s natural that it progresses as a company and improves. Along with offering more categories for clothing, the brand also stated to Fashionista that part of its rebranding will include a name change, dropping “of Supply” as part of the name. With its new clothing and materials, the rebrand will reflect Ministry’s message and overall mission. All these changes point to Ministry working towards something innovative and progressive. Whether or not the company’s efforts will be recognized remains to be seen.
