Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng came to the forefront of the global fashion industry during his days as menswear director of Givenchy. Since leaving the LVMH owned brand, the designer has continued to make a name for himself with his own eponymous menswear label. Now, he is eyeing the womenswear market.

The designer will be debuting his womenswear collection in New York on May 5. The timing is fitting, as it also matches the 100 year anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance. A statement from the company said that the event will be “starting with a short film on Africanism, and guiding us into the future of AI." Boateng himself is the son of Ghanaian immigrants.

In 1995 when Boateng founded his namesake label, he became the youngest black designer to open his own boutique on Savile Row. While fans of the brand will have to wait until the actual show to see what Boateng has done for his soon-to-be womenswear customer, they can expect luxe tailoring, playful colors, and an homage to Boateng's Ghanaian heritage.
