American clothing brand Ralph Lauren has unveiled the outfits designed for Team USA for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics set to take place this summer.
Ralph Lauren, the official outfitter for Team USA since 2008, developed and invested in sustainable materials and manufacturing technologies to fit the athletes in a wide range of apparel, including the closing ceremony parade uniforms.
The brand stated it had reduced the amount of water, chemicals, and energy consumed during the manufacturing process by using EcoFast, a pre-treatment solution that creates a more sustainable cotton dyeing method. In addition, the brand has tapped into Mirum, a leather alternative made from plant-based fiber materials and is free of synthetic plastics.
The Team USA closing ceremony uniforms include a white drawstring jacket, white polo, slim white denim pants, shoes, a belt made from recycled polyester derived from plastic water bottles, and a mask made from verified US-grown cotton. The collection features bold graphics, stripes, and color-blocking of red, white, and blue.
“As we come together to celebrate and compete, we must also embrace our responsibility to protect the planet we all call home. As part of this, we are proud to continue to invest in and scale sustainability innovations — dressing our nation’s best and brightest athletes in timeless clothing that has been consciously created,” stated David Lauren, chief innovation and branding officer of Ralph Lauren in a press release.
