Son Jung Wan keeps it maximalist for New York Fashion Week

It's a maximalist world, and Son Jung Wan recognizes that. As the trend of maximalism continues, one of South Korea's most beloved designers decided to play with volume, texture and color in exaggerated way for her fall/winter 2018 New York Fashion Week show.

The opening look featured a yellow silk jumpsuit with a fox fur hood scarf. Wan let her audience know from the get that the luxury was coming in its peak forms. Color was a big part of this collection. Like many designers this season, she was on trend with shades of pink in her collection. A pink and white pattern romper with bow detail and matching jacket gave a spring feel in winter, but in an era of maximalism, anything goes.

Wan also experimented with exposed seams to create strong 3D effects and unique structural silhouettes. The color palette also included yellow, green and blue, and fabric choices included tweed and jacquard. In addition to romantic floral patterns, checks and stripes were also seen in the collection.

In the spirit of fall/winter, she had her signature fur detailing on everything from coats to dress cuffs. A multicolored jacket with green shearling details and fox trim paired with velvet pants made a colorful and eccentric statement.

While fall/winter is usually a time of more reserved fashion choices, as we traditionally go for more neutral colors, Wan reminded us not to shy away from color. It's a brighter time for fashion this year as maximalism rolls on.
