The Southern California Apparel Awards just recently announced the winner of their Icon Award. This year, the award went to Lonnie Kane, co-owner of the label Karen Kane Inc. for his outstanding work in the fashion industry.

Kane, who helped found the Los Angeles-based label, is also chairman of the California Fashion Association. “The [California Fashion Association] would not have been here for 20 years if it hadn’t been for our chairman, Lonnie Kane,” Ilse Metchek, CFA president told Apparel News. Metchek was also last year’s recipient of the Icon Award. The award is meant to celebrate and honor those who have stand-out qualities in the fashion world. “An icon is someone who has been around the industry and gained respect of the industry,” Metchek told the publication.

In the past, Kane has also received an award for “CEO of the Year” from Apparel Magazine. Kane’s truest accomplishment comes from the company that was founded in parternship with his wife, Karen Kane. The Los Angeles label was established in 1980 when the company’s first collection was shipped. Co-founded by the husband and wife duo, the two moved to a space in downtown Los Angeles to manufacture their line. Currently, the label sells women’s apparel including tops, dresses, bottoms, outwear, accessories and is known for its classic, stylish silhouettes.
