Day 8 of NYFW brought a small roundup of designers, editors, and buyers to the runways one last time in New York City before they all took off for London Fashion Week. Some of the final shows included the ever flawless Ralph Lauren, the supreme Calvin Klein Collection, and the fabulous Sherri Hill. It was a quick and short final day, but some of the best was saved for last. Suffice to say, there is no greater time in New York City than NYFW.

Iconic designer Ralph Lauren, the master of all things design and lifestyle, decided to stick with the seventies trend going on right now, all while throwing in some western details, such as fringe, floppy hats, and shearling. Lauren kept the color palette very neutral, with brown being the star color of the show, also while throwing in some beige and black respectfully. It was a lesson on how to make the subtle exciting, and Lauren is one great teacher. After Ralph Lauren plunged on his Q3 losses last year he really needs a collection that will get fashionistas buying, but he just may have found his profit ticket with this collection.

Dorin Negrau’s fall 2015 show was an Indian inspired masterpiece, including everything from turbans, to Indian prints accenting brightly colored dresses, and free billowing silhouettes. Negrau is known for his unexpected association of materials, and the perfectly placed Indian inspired patterns in these slightly more traditional ready-to-wear looking dresses is a perfect example of his design aesthetic. With a large global presence Negrau always has to make sure to have some global appeal and influence to his collection, and these latest designs are sure to serve him well.

New York Fashion Week comes to a fabulous close

While everyone was out celebrating the seventies, the legendary Calvin Klein decided he was going to celebrate the sixties. His collection was all about the mini and maxi skirts, as well as a few jumpsuits and culottes thrown into the mix. The highlight of the collection would have to be those over the knee boots, and while Calvin Klein is more known for his dresses than footwear, he is about to be on every ladies must have shoe list with those boots. With Calvin Klein’s revenue only jumping 2 percent during Q4 last year, the designer is looking to try and bring in some major bank this year, and this collection will be just the right tool for that.

While the womenswear in Sergio Davila’s show was quaint to say the least his menswear was to die for. Some of the pieces included a camouflage print parka, a grey blazer that was styled so it was belted above the waist, and stylish turtlenecks in the spirit of disappearing neckline that has been trending all Fashion Week. He might be lacking in the womenswear market, but he certainly will see no shortage of success in the menswear market. With a collection like this he can be expecting major revenue numbers this year, especially with menswear becoming such an growing market. There is no better time than now to focus on putting out a great menswear collection, and Davila did more than his best with this show.

Sherri Hill was the epitome of that Coco Chanel quote, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous” last night. Everyone was dressed as if they were going to the queen’s ball, and it was quite a sight to behold. Some of the dresses included a crimson gown with a lace bodice, a sexy black floor length number with a side slit leaving room for a lady to show off some sultry leg, and an above the knee purple number with a bejeweled neckline. With a list of clientele including celebrities like Ariana Grande and Miranda Lambert, Hill always has to make sure to design to impress, and impress she did with this collection. It will be another fabulous year for the fabulous lady, and everyone from celebrities to the New York fashion elite will be clamoring for her collection come fall.
