Thakoon is preparing to relaunch. The high-end contemporary label will be relaunching as a see-now-buy-now proposition with a SoHo flagship store and a runway scheduled for New York Fashion Week in September.
Vivian Chou, who bought a controlling stake in Thakoon Corp. last year, is planning to position the label as a high-end sportswear brand sold exclusively through the New York flagship and its directly operated e-commerce site. Accessories and limited-edition products are expected to be offered as well.
Chou is the daughter of Hong Kong mogul Silas Chou, the chief executive officer of family business Novel Holdings. Silas Chou is a former investor in Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger. It has been understood that Vivian Chou is seeking to follow in her father's footsteps, and is hoping to make Thakoon a mega-brand and put it up for an IPO.
Thakoon to return to runway in September
The brand, whose headquarters are in Hong Kong, has been growing its team, and has made several hires since last year. The company has been poaching people from company's like Ralph Lauren and Lane Crawford.
Chou's company Bright Fame Fashion bought a controlling interest in Thakoon Corp. last December for an undisclosed sum. This September will mark the first runway show the brand has had since September 2015, as Panichgul took a break from the runway for fall/winter 2016.
Thakoon is one of the numerous brands who has jumped on the controversial see-now-buy-now format, which challenges the traditional format of the fashion calendar. Other brands that have adapted to the see-now-buy-now format include Tom Ford, Burberry, Rebecca Minkoff, and Vetements.
