In a period where feminism is more needed than ever, and designers are finding ways to be part of the resistance. For their fall/winter 2018 collection, Colovos was inspired by the idea of the matriarch, the female head of the family. Rather than being the alpha girl, she finds strength in vulnerability over might. In this iteration, the soft also overcomes the hard in terms of fabrications.

The brand took a very socially conscious approach to fashion this season, as they have eliminated animal skins, furs and leathers and replaced them with faux variations. Orange check fabric was made from recycled bottles extracted from the ocean and draped in variations of a twisted form fitting dress to a relaxed trench coat. This helped reduce a lot of the pollution done in fashion production by 95 percent.

Unique to their brand DNA, Colovos' collection featured deconstructed tailoring with hand finishing. Outside open seams gave the sense of breaking something down to almost build it back up again in reverse. It also symbolized internal vulnerability, but although Colovos' matriarch goes through life more vulnerable, she still has her clothes as her armor. Her instincts are strong, as are her fashion choices.
