Todd Snyder is becoming quite the darling of the sports world. The menswear designer, who was a nominee this year for the CFDA's Menswear Designer of the Year, is taking his Todd Snyder x Champion collaboration to the next level.
He has teamed with fitness influencer Akin Akman on a capsule collection launching next week.
The collection, called Drop One, will feature five men's and five women's styles of t-shirts, tanks, hoodies and shorts. It will also include a limited-edition bomber signed by Snyder and Akman in celebration of the collaboration.
“I really wanted to take our Champion partnership to the next level, and collaborating with a true athlete like Akin brings an authenticity to the product,” Snyder said to WWD.
While Snyder has spent four years collaborating with Champion, he sees this as a way to continue to expand his customer base and familiarize himself with a new customer base.
Snyder and Akman met on the set of the brand's ad campaign, and after developing a quick friendship they designed a t-shirt together that sold out immediately. They both saw the opportunity for sales gold if they worked together again, thus Drop One happened.
“I am such a fan of Todd’s. I love what his brand represents so when he approached us about collaborating, it was a natural fit,” Akman said to WWD. “Champion is a brand that truly represents my approach to fitness. Training like a champion, thinking like a champion is exactly what I strive to ignite in my army. It’s a mindset that defines both my fitness philosophy as well as my life.”
The collaboration will be unveiled during an event at Snyder's Madison Avenue boutique on August 17. The collection will be sold both in-store and on Todd Snyder's e-commerce website.
