Samantha Pleet, a New York-based designer, is known for her vintage designs and ethereal prints. In collaboration with Urban Outfitters, a multinational clothing corporation, Pleet has come together with the retailer in order to create a new line entitled “Samantha Pleet & UO.”
From creating sketches when she was little to making lookbook portfolios to hand out to shops in L.A., Pleet made a name for herself in the fashion industry. In 2008, the Pratt Institute alumni quickly established her company with husband, Patrick Pleet, as her business partner and co-creative director.
“I’ve been designing my collection for a few years, and when the Rapscallion [line] came out, my [husband] became a part of it to help me with designs,” said Samantha in an interview with Urban Outfitters.
“We took Rapscallion as its own project and started basically from scratch and working with Urban Outfitters to develop a totally new line,” said Patrick.
The inspiration for the L.A.-inspired line draws from the embodiment of rascals and rebels in their designs. Samantha described it as “sexy rebellious clothing that makes you feel really confident.” Samantha said her designs are influenced from strong female role models such as Joan of Arc and Amelia Earhart.
Samantha’s own line includes flirty dresses, coats, and edgy boots. Her eponymous line with Urban Outfitters is more seasonal based--gearing up for spring-wear and summer-wear. With flower prints, swimwear, and matching tops with bottoms; her collection has a strong L.A. vibe.
Her brand runs from about 60 dollars to 349 in price, with most pieces having an average price somewhere in the middle.
The collaboration has been a dream for the designer, as she has shopped with the popular retail store back from the days where it got its start in Philadelphia. “I feel like I really understand the Urban [Outfitters] customer because I am that customer,” said Samantha.
