The relationship between fashion and hip-hop has become as symbiotic as the relationship between bread and butter. Just look at the number of hip-hop stars in attendance at The Met Gala, and rapper Lil Yachty being named creative director of Nautica. The next fashion relationship to come out of the hip-hop community is YG who will be relaunching 4 Hunnid.
The rapper, who will be opening for Grammy Award winner Kendrick Lamar this summer, is working with Gavin Mathieu, 4 Hunnid's creative director, to relaunch the brand as a unisex lifestyle collection.
“People always thought of 4 Hunnid as merch, so we want to present it in a different way for people to perceive it differently,” said Mathíeu to WWD. “We really want to create a fashion brand.
YG originally started 4 Hunnid in February 2016. The initial test run of t-shirts and hoodies did so well that it was released in 400 retail doors. Now, he wants to expand the line to include plaid trousers, jackets, sweatshirts, hats and other lifestyle accessories.
The new collection will retail from 38 dollars to 72 dollars. It will be available beginning June 1 on 4 Hunnid's website.
The collection will also be presented this July during NYFW: Men's. They will be taking a direct-to-consumer focus with the collection.
