Burton appoints former The North Face president Caroline Brown to board of directors

US outdoor and snowboard company Burton has appointed Caroline Brown to its board of directors. The Burlington, Vermont-based brand, which is privately owned by chair of the board Donna Carpenter, announced the appointment on October 22, 2026.

Brown most recently served as global brand president of The North Face and sat on the global leadership team of parent company VF Corporation (VF Corp). In that role, she led worldwide brand vision, strategy and commercial execution.

Carpenter praised the appointment, stating that Brown brings an understanding of how performance, fashion, innovation and culture intersect. “She knows how to honor the authenticity of an iconic brand while continuing to evolve it, reach new consumers and stay culturally relevant. Her background and experience will be a strong addition to our board as we continue building Burton's next chapter,” Carpenter said.

Prior to joining VF Corp, Brown worked as managing director at US investment firm Closed Loop Partners, directing investments in sustainable solutions across fashion and beauty. Earlier in her career, she held the position of chief executive officer at fashion label Donna Karan International and DKNY. Brown also served as president of luxury fashion house Carolina Herrera, US CEO of Swiss fashion house Akris, and spent over a decade in senior marketing and communications roles at Italian luxury label Giorgio Armani.

Brown commented that the business is entering an important era as it marks five decades in the snow sports sector. “Burton lives right at the heart of snowboarding - 50 years into the journey and looking ahead to the future,” said Brown. “Driven by purpose and guided by riders as their foundation, the Burton team has built something truly extraordinary.”

In addition to executive posts, Brown has served on the boards of VF Corp and US womenswear brand Eileen Fisher. She also acts as an advisor to the Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship at the MIT Sloan School of Management and has advised industry initiatives including the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and the H&M Global Change Awards.

Burton, which was founded in 1977 by Jake Burton Carpenter, operates regional hubs in Austria, Japan, Australia, Canada and China.
