Jason Cater, the fashionable businessman, who has spent the last 8 years at Ermenegildo Zegna, will now be taking the reins at Peter Millar as their Vice-President of Design and Merchandising. Cater boasts a very impressive resumé, having worked his way up at Zegna starting off as their Director of Sales, and eventually shifting up the ladder towards his most recent role before he left as their Vice President of Wholesale for Sportswear and Leather Goods.

Cater joins the growing luxury brand as they are beginning a steady and glorious take off. CEO and Chairman, Scott Mahoney, has his sights on Peter Millar expanding in the U.S., and potentially the U.K. The brand caters to avid fans of golf and those who sport the country club former ivy leaguer style look. Last fall the company opened a flagship store on Madison Avenue between 54th and 55th Street. It’s one of their five current operations, including their stores in Southampton, N.Y., Palm Beach, Florida, St. Andrews Scotland, and Austin, Texas.

The brand, which is owned by Richemont, the conglomerate known for owning such luxury labels the likes of Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, and Chloé, has its sights set on the slow and steady expansion of Peter Millar, and Cater is seen as one of their golden tickets to the company’s growth. “Jason’s experience in the luxury sportswear category will be invaluable to Peter Millar as the company continues to experience considerable growth in the U.S. and internationally,” Scott Ruerup, president of Peter Millar Collection, was quoted saying in Women’s Wear Daily.

With their next sights on expansion most likely being Europe it is excellent that they brought someone on board who has a strong understanding of the European luxury markets. With the markets in Europe being so sluggish when it comes to luxury retail, Cater will have his work cut out for him. After a successful eight years at Zegna, however, he certainly seems like just the man for the job.
