J.Crew Group has announced the appointment of Gena Smith as its new chief human resources officer (CHRO), where she will oversee all aspects of the company’s human resources function, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, inclusion, belonging, and leadership development.
Smith, who is based in New York and will report directly to CEO Libby Wadle, brings over two decades of experience in human capital strategy and organisational development across the fashion and retail industries.

Prior to her time at LVMH, Smith served as global managing director at Karen Harvey Consulting Group. She also held leadership roles at Russell Reynolds Associates and Ray Berndtson.
CEO Libby Wadle expressed her excitement, stating that Smith is a "dynamic leader with deep expertise in aligning people strategies with business goals in creative-led organizations" and that her ability to build inclusive cultures will be a powerful asset as J.Crew Group continues to grow.
Smith, who also serves on the board of Governors for the Fashion Scholarship Fund and Parsons School of Design, noted her excitement to join the company at a "pivotal time" and partner with the leadership team to build a purpose-driven culture that empowers and retains top talent.
