RealReal names Alexis Hoopes as chief merchandising officer

US luxury resale platform The RealReal has appointed Alexis Hoopes as chief merchandising officer.

Hoopes joins from US e-commerce company Ebay, where she led its 10 billion dollars global fashion business. She brings experience in luxury merchandising, international marketplace expansion and digital commerce from leadership positions at Ebay, toy company Mattel and department store chain Nordstrom.

In her new role, Hoopes will lead merchandising strategy, focusing on strengthening the luxury assortment, enhancing personalised product discovery and unlocking growth opportunities through technology, data and global marketplace expertise.

“Alexis is a proven leader who brings a rare combination of luxury merchandising expertise, global marketplace experience and operational discipline,” said The RealReal president and CEO, Rati Sahi Levesque. “As we build on our leadership in luxury resale, her ability to connect exceptional merchandise with evolving consumer demand will be instrumental in accelerating growth, elevating the shopping experience and realizing the full potential of our platform.”

At Ebay, Hoopes served as vice president and general manager of global fashion, overseeing teams across the US, the UK and Europe. In this capacity, she expanded the authenticity guarantee programme into new categories, price points and international markets, while developing resale-as-a-service partnerships with brands and retailers and driving cross-border commerce between Asia and the US.

Earlier in her career, Hoopes held the position of senior vice president of e-commerce at Mattel, where she developed the business' direct-to-consumer (D2C) operations, launched two digital platforms and integrated e-commerce operations for American Girl. Prior to that, she spent nearly 15 years at Nordstrom across merchandising, strategy, e-commerce and planning roles.

“I've long admired The RealReal for bringing together the best of luxury fashion with the excitement of discovery,” said Hoopes. “The opportunity to combine luxury products, deep proprietary data and emerging technologies to create a more personalized shopping experience is incredibly compelling. I'm excited to work with the team to expand our assortment, unlock new sources of supply and help shape the future of luxury resale.”
