Tamara Mellon has selected Tania Spinelli for the role of chief design officer of the Tamara Mellon brand. In her new role, Spinelli will be overseeing all women's footwear design. “She has a great design sense and extensive technical knowledge,” Mellon was quoted saying to WWD regarding Spinelli's appointment.

Spinelli has an impressive list of design credits, including working as design director for Tommy Hilfiger and designer for Diane von Furstenburg's debut footwear collection in 2005. In 2005, Spinelli launched her namesake footwear line, which will now be folded into the Tamara Mellon brand.

“[Mellon] has really developed a strong infrastructure to grow Tamara Mellon into a major footwear brand, and this is something I did not have,” Spinelli was quoted saying to WWD. “There is a natural synergy in our aesthetics, so I felt it was a great opportunity, both creatively and business-wise, to join the Tamara Mellon brand.” The designers first collection for Tamara Mellon will be for fall 2016.
