Target announces executive leadership changes under new CEO Michael Fiddelke

US-based retail giant Target Corporation has announced a series of executive leadership changes as part of a strategic reorganisation under its new chief executive officer, Michael Fiddelke. The appointments, effective February 15, 2026, are designed to simplify the corporate structure and accelerate the company’s growth plans by focusing on merchandising authority and the guest experience.

Reaffirming its prior outlook, the retailer expects Q4 results and full-year earnings to meet previous estimates. Forecasts include a low-single-digit dip in Q4 sales, full-year GAAP EPS of 7.70 dollars to 8.70 dollars, and adjusted EPS of 7 dollars to 8 dollars. Fiddelke stated that the changes align talent with key roles to advance the company’s strategy with greater speed and accountability.

New appointments to lead merchandising and operations

Cara Sylvester has been named executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, moving from her previous role as chief guest experience officer. In this singular merchandising leadership position, Sylvester is tasked with expanding Target’s design and style authority through product development, assortment design, and partner collaborations. She brings extensive experience across digital, loyalty, and marketing functions.

Lisa Roath has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO). Roath, who previously served as chief merchandising officer of food, essentials, and beauty, will now oversee the end-to-end retail operation. Her remit includes the integration of supply chain, stores, and merchandising to improve execution and operational efficiency across the business.

Departures and external searches

As part of the leadership transition, Rick Gomez, the chief commercial officer, will depart the company. Additionally, Jill Sando, who served as chief merchandising officer for apparel and accessories, home, and Fun101, will retire following a 29-year tenure at the retailer. Both executives will remain with the group for a short period to facilitate a smooth handover of responsibilities.

The company has also initiated an external search to fill the role of chief guest experience and marketing officer. This search follows recent additions to the Target board of directors, further signalling a broader refresh of the company’s top-level governance and management.
